AbleVets collaborates with VA to develop a suite of mobile applications for Veteran outpatient appointment scheduling

CHANTILLY, VA – June 13, 2018 – AbleVets LLC, a leading provider of advanced IT solutions for government, is pleased to announce that Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Mobile Scheduling Enhancements (MSE) Program is a 2018 FedHealthIT Innovation Award winner. AbleVets collaborates with VA’s OI&T Enterprise Program Management Office and the Veterans Health Administration’s Office of Connected Care on MSE, and employs Agile, DevOps and cloud to accelerate and optimize the development of a suite of 508-compliant mobile applications. The apps, which include VA Online Scheduling (VAOS), Scheduling Manager and VA Toolset, allow Veterans, VA scheduling staff and VA clinical sites to facilitate Veteran outpatient appointment scheduling. Notably, VAOS is one of three initiatives announced by The White House to expand healthcare access for Veterans via technological innovation.

VA OI&T was honored at the 4th annual FedHealthIT Innovation award ceremony held on June 12th, 2018 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. More than 300 federal health leaders from government and industry gathered to celebrate and recognize all 26 award winners representing VA, Military Health, Health and Human Services, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

“I congratulate the Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically the OI&T Enterprise Program Management Office and VHA’s Office of Connected Care, on winning this FedHealthIT Innovation Award,” said Dr. Wyatt Smith, CEO of AbleVets. “When it comes to driving innovation and attaining results, these offices possess tremendous vision and attention on efforts that will yield better outcomes for Veterans. The MSE project is a testimony to their leadership and their dedication to positive change.”

Smith continued, “I am proud of the role AbleVets played in the collaborative MSE effort. As a project, MSE demonstrates the important role technology can play in advancing Veterans’ access to care. As a company, AbleVets will continue to seek out and solve the most complex federal health IT challenges, and in the process, honor our commitment to those who have served.”

AbleVets’ efforts not only helped reduce the time to app release but also contributed to greater Veteran use of VAOS. Using monthly transactions as a baseline, usage has increased by 3000 percent year-over year.
